Crypto tax in the Philippines (2026)
Not tax advice. General information only, figures as of 2026. Rules change and your situation may differ; check the official source or a registered tax adviser before you file.
What we found
- We could not find a revenue regulation from the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) that deals specifically with crypto. Several professional firms say income from crypto falls under the Tax Code's general definition of gross income ("all income derived from whatever source") and should be declared on your regular income tax return.
- Whether crypto is an ordinary asset (trading as a business) or a capital asset (an investment) changes how it is taxed. Ask a BIR-accredited adviser.
- The Department of Finance has committed to implementing the OECD Crypto-Asset Reporting Framework (CARF) by 2028, so tax authorities will exchange crypto transaction data across borders.
